Le Petit Ducru de Ducru Beaucaillou is a red wine from the Saint-Julien appellation, characterized by a predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blend, carefully aged to offer a harmonious balance and elegant structure.
Estate and Terroir
This wine is produced by Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, a Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, located in Saint-Julien, Bordeaux. The vineyard benefits from a unique microclimate and terroir composed of Günz gravel, deep gravel 6 to 8 meters deep, resting on a Tertiary subsoil of Oligocene muds and Eocene limestone deposits, ensuring excellent drainage and optimal ripening of the grapes. The Borie family has managed the estate since 1941 with reasoned viticulture prioritizing environmentally friendly practices
Blend and Vinification
Main grape varieties:
Merlot: approximately 60 %
Cabernet Sauvignon: 36 % (or up to 40 % in certain years)
Petit Verdot: approximately 4 %
The blend varies slightly depending on the vintage.
Vinification is rigorous with gentle extraction, controlled malolactic fermentation in tanks. Aging takes place in Bordeaux barriques for 12 to 18 months, with one-third to 30 % new wood depending on the vintage, bringing complexity and finesse.

Particularities and Positioning
Le Petit Ducru is the second wine of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, coming from specific plots in the Saint-Julien appellation. It is designed as an accessible introduction to the style of the estate's grand crus, with a softer and more spontaneous profile, perfect for an earlier tasting while retaining the typicality and finesse characteristic of the Borie estate.
