The 2015 Château Léoville Poyferré is an elegant, powerful, and highly balanced 2nd Grand Cru Classé, with complex aromas ranging from black fruits to licorice, and great aging potential.
Origin and Terroir
Located in Saint-Julien in the Bordeaux region, this iconic estate benefits from an exceptional terroir of Garonne gravels over clay-sand subsoils. The vines average 35 years old and grow on Mindel gravel terraces. The oceanic climate moderates the conditions for ripening the grapes, promoting finesse and elegance in the wine.
Blend and Vinification
The blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (around 65%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (3%) and other classic Bordeaux grape varieties. Plot-by-plot vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks is followed by long maceration and malolactic fermentation in barrels, with aging for 18 to 20 months in French barrels, 80% of which are new.
