About the Estate

Château Haut-Marbuzet is one of the oldest estates in Saint-Estèphe. The vineyard is perfectly situated on slopes of gravel mixed with limestone clay. The high proportion of Merlot in the blend (40%) gives it exceptional softness, which is the origin of the flattering description of the wine as "the most sensual wine in Bordeaux" awarded by Robert Parker. The talent, disarming kindness and always warm welcome of the Duboscq family have long succeeded in bringing together and retaining a clientele of enthusiasts who are now unconditional admirers of these supple, round wines with melted tannins and intense aromas. It should also be noted that the estate leaves nothing to chance. The grapes are harvested by hand at full ripeness. This stage is followed by precise winemaking in which tradition plays a leading role. The wines are therefore vinified in temperature-controlled concrete or wood vats. They are then aged in new barriques for a year and a half. All this allows the production of some 360,000 bottles per year.

About the Cuvée

Considered by some to be the most Burgundian of the Bordeaux wines, Château Haut-Marbuzet was awarded the Exceptional Cru Bourgeois status during the revision of the Cru Bourgeois classification in June 2003. Some enthusiasts even rank it in their hearts among the region's elite. It is clear that professional critics do not tire of praising this Saint-Estèphe composed of regional grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, all from vines that are, on average, about thirty years old. These draw the nutrients necessary for their development from a terroir defined by a slope of Gunzian gravel and a subsoil of clay and limestone. The estate is committed to the manual vinification of slightly overripe berries. In the cellar, these are fully destemmed and macerated for a long period. In order to extract good substance and beautiful aromas, this period is punctuated by daily pump-overs. Finally, the wine is aged in new oak barriques.
Designed for aging for fifteen to twenty years, this wine seduces with the intensity of its fragrance marked by notes of red fruit and other delicately woody notes that recall a masterfully controlled aging. The wine is structured by fine tannins.
